Care for a dog temporarily until we can find their forever home.

Fostering is one of the greatest services you can offer to Forget-Me-Not Inc.. Dogs can require foster care for a number of reasons including:

  • Our rescue is simply out of room and we do not have any more space.
  • A puppy is too young to be adopted to a home.
  • A dog needs recovery or rehabilitation from an injury or illness.
  • A dog is showing signs of stress in a shelter and needs to be removed.

Near Bradenton, FL and considering fostering a dog in need? Here's what you need to know.

We have put together some of our most common FAQs to help you determine if fostering is the right path for you and your family. It is important to understand all that fostering entails before you take the leap.

Question Icon

Will there be any out of pocket expenses for me?

No, the Rescue will provide everything your foster pet will need. Foster parents are welcome to contribute by buying food, treats or toys and if you want. We encourage you to keep your receipts for the end of the year so we can give you a tax donation receipt.

Question Icon

What should I do if there is a medical emergency?

A folder with all the information you need will be given to you when you start the foster program. This includes emergency and contact information.

Question Icon

Who pays for medical bills if they arise? Does that include treatment for my pets if they catch something from my foster dog?

All of our pets are vaccinated. You will not be given a pet that has any condition that could be transmitted to other pets. All veterinarian visits will be set up by the Rescue and paid for by the Rescue.

Question Icon

Can I choose my foster dog?

Foster dogs are assessed by compatibility with your lifestyle. Not every dog will work in every situation.

Question Icon

If I have a problem, how soon will someone get back with me?

Every effort will be made to get in touch with you as soon as possible, and we have several avenues of communication to make it easier to reach someone.

Question Icon

What happens if I can no longer foster?

We ask that you give us as much notice as possible if you can no longer foster. This allows us time to seek a new home for your foster pet.

Question Icon

If I find someone that wants to adopt, who contacts, screens and sets up the meet and greet?

We have volunteer counselors that will take care of all communications with a potential adopter.

Question Icon

Will I be required to bring him/her to pet adoption events, if so when and where?

The more exposure your foster pet gets through social media or events will increase their chances of adoption, so we ask that you attend as many of our adoption or fundraising events as you can.

Question Icon

What if I decide that I want to adopt my foster dog, can I do that?

Yes! We only require that an adoption contract is signed.

One of our most amazing rescue dogs after a hard recovery is now enjoying the easy life after Forget-Me-Not Inc. saved him from death row in Manatee county.
