We save death row dogs. The mission of Forget-Me-Not is to save the lives of hard-to-place pets (e.g., bully breeds, seniors, special needs, injured, and pregnant mothers) that are impounded in Bradenton/Sarasota kill shelters and at risk for euthanasia and homeless pets in the community.
These pets often run out of time in the shelter because of overpopulation and a shortage of kennel space, or they just have a hard time being adopted due to age, breed, appearance, medical issues, or have special needs such as deafness or blindness. We never import dogs from out of state or euthanize healthy animals.
Forget-Me-Not Inc. was founded in 2013 by Debbie Woosley and she has saved over 300 dogs with the help of the Mantee County community.
The majority of the pets in our rescue are saved after being abandoned or surrendered to kill shelters in and around Manatee County, Florida. We provide veterinary care, rehabilitation when needed, and a safe environment at our kennels or in foster homes for shelter pets to decompress.
Our pets are adopted to loving, forever families. Background checks, home visits, and veterinarian references are required prior to adoption. Because our goal is to make the best possible placement for a dog, we work closely with prospective adopters to ensure a successful adoption in a well matched home.
Our #UnforgettaBULL campaign is designed to encourage and promote successful adoptions of pit bulls and other big dogs that have a difficult time being adopted in shelter environments. Our aim is to prove to our community that these “hard-to-place” dogs are great family pets that simply become victims of circumstance in overpopulated shelter environments.
We are working to improve the future for UnforgettaBULL dogs in our community by giving these intelligent, loving creatures the extra time, attention, and promotion that they need to find homes. We believe that working with our local Manatee County Animal Services is a great place to start. In fact, that’s where most of our adoptable dogs come from.
Our Save Rate is 100%. Many of the dogs in our rescue were already slated for euthanasia when we rescued them, most of them had been labeled, medical, fearful and aggressive, but we know too often the real reason they are on death row is because of a lack of space. We are very proud to continue with our promise of never euthanizing any pet until every opportunity of treatment or rehabilitation has been exhausted. FMN proudly participates in the Shelter Animals Count and the link to our stats can be found below, to evaluate our live save rate we use the Asilomar Accords guidelines and the calculations can be seen at the bottom of each years reporting.
